04/10/13 11:15a Port St LucieFLNONEUKF4HThis is the main (front) office for a large apartment complex and this is the one and ONLY handicap parking spot at this building. I live at this complex and have to park here every few days, as this building also houses the complex laundry facility as well as the pool area. Because of this, parking is usually rather scarce most of the time so it's very important those who are not disabled not violate this parking spot. This individual was in the laundry room with me and he is NOT disabled. The fact he has a US Marine Corps license plate is even more disappointing. This is a young man around 30 years of age and I made sure I gave him a hard *look* when we both came out to our cars at the same time, as my disability is very apparent. Upon seeing me he it was clear he made the connection that he'd prevented me from parking in the spot he illegally occupied. However, he seemed rather unmoved at his indiscretion and later parked there AGAIN when he came back to retrieve his laundry. Real nice, huh? The saddest part of this is there is a county Sheriff's Deputy who lives just behind and adjacent to this one and only handicapped parking spot. The deputy parks his marked patrol car behind where this handicapped spot is located in plain view of the public, yet the deputy never says or does anything about this problem, and I have personally witnessed him viewing cars with no placard parked in this spot. However, the apartment complex gives the deputy a reduced rent in exchange for his on-site services as a law enforcement officer. Clearly because the office gives him a nice "break" on his rent, he chooses to look the other way regarding parking violations such as this. So the problem here is actually two-fold. Very disappointing in both those who would park in a disabled spot with no placard, and a sheriff's deputy who is content to look the other way in favor of paying less rent than all us lowly common folk - Total failure of the system at work here... 16667 view
