The Property Manager Amanda at Deerfield Apartments that can be reached at 712.256.4780 has illegally wrote on the signs outside of Building C. It has been brought to Amandas attention multiple times in the last 30 days that you cannot write on a handicap sign with a sharpie. A special reserved sign needs to be ordered for each individual tenant. This is illegal. 15953 view

02/20/13 8:00a LafayetteLA00000000WCV798This vehicle ( 2001-2002 Gold Honda Accord Coupe ) illegally parks behind Wharton Hall EVERY Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday between the hours of 0800 and 0850. Attached is an image of the expired UL parking pass, along with evidence of the violation. A parking ticket issued for parking behind Wharton Hall once before in a non handicap spot, and since then the vehicle has began occupying the handicap spot in order to evade further tickets. However, it is my understanding that even with a valid rear view mirror handicap placard ( which I cannot visually confirm the validity of ) the vehicle must also obtain a valid (up to date) UL campus Zone 0 sticker to park in the handicap spot on campus legally without violation ( also note the attached image showing no handicap license plate ). I witness this vehicle parking there every morning on my commute to class, and the occupants are obviously in no way disabled. The prompt and mindful relocation to the reserved handicap spot is valid circumstantial evidence of the driver attempting to utilize the rear view mirror handicap placard as a loophole in order to evade further violations. According to Louisiana state law, a vehicle displaying the rear view handicap placard may only occupy a reserved handicap parking spot if the vehicle is being used to transport the person that the tag is registered under to the location which it is parked. This is clearly a case of abuse and misuse of this handicap parking placard and should be immediately addressed! Not only does this abuse pose possible safety hazards to vehicles, staff, and pedestrians who occupy the parking area, but also creates a grievance to handicap commuters who are truly disabled. I have to park off campus, commute, and follow the UL parking regulations like everyone else, and its unfair for a student to abuse the handicap privilege and continually violate the UL parking guidelines. Everyone who has a truly disabled family member or relative as well as students who have valid campus parking tags should take offence to this violation. If the vehicle owner wishes to continue parking there, then she should acquire valid campus parking tags like everyone else. I will continue to note violations and make reports until the driver obtains updated UL campus parking tags or parks off campus in designated spots for vehicles without valid UL campus parking tags. 16285 view
